Dr. Joaquin Picazo-Veste received his Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) from Murcia University in Spain and a Doctoral Degree (Ph.D.) from Complutense University in Madrid, Spain. He then pursued several specialized training programs as additional qualifications for his career. These included post-doctoral training in general and digestive surgery, a certificate in bariatric and metabolic surgery, a Master’s qualification in Medical Direction and Health Care Management, an Expert’s qualification in clinical unit management, a Category C qualification in experimental animal studies management, the ATLS Certificate in Advanced Trauma Life Support, and the BLS Certificate in Basic Life Support. Dr. Picazo further honed his expertise with advanced training at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas (USA), and the European Pancreas Center at University Hospital in Heidelberg, Germany, focusing on pancreatic diseases. Dr. Picazo began his professional practice in 1995 as an Attendant Surgeon at La Mancha-Centro General Hospital in Spain. He held this position for over a decade, during which he also served as the Director of Resident Doctor Training and Chairman of the Teaching Commission (2005–2015). In 2006, he advanced to the role of Vice-Chairman of Surgery in the Department of General and Digestive Surgery and Head of the Abdominal Wall Unit at the same hospital. Additionally, he served as a Board Member of the Spanish Committee for Abdominal Wall Surgery. For the past 20 years, Dr. Picazo has maintained a strong commitment to scientific research, with numerous peer-reviewed publications, including innovative surgical techniques related to pancreatic, laparoscopic, and abdominal wall surgery. Relocating to the Middle East, Dr. Picazo served as a Consultant General Surgeon at a leading hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, for four years. He then returned to La Mancha-Centro General Hospital in Spain as an Attendant Surgeon before joining Burjeel Holdings Group as a General Surgeon.
