Dr Faiyaz Ameer Farook is a British-trained Consultant Neurologist with extensive experience in the diagnosis and management of a wide range of neurological conditions. He has completed specialist neurology training in the UK and holds a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Neurology, Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP), and the UK Specialist Certificate Examination in Neurology. His other qualifications include an MD Internal Medicine and MRCP(UK). Prior to joining Burjeel Day Surgery Center, Abu Dhabi, Dr Farook worked as a Consultant Neurologist at University Hospitals Birmingham, one of the UKâs leading tertiary Neuroscience centres. In this role, he provided specialist and general neurology care, managed complex neurological conditions, supervised resident doctors, and contributed to the teaching and training of medical students and doctors. Dr Farook has a subspecialist expertise in Movement Disorders, including Parkinsonâs disease, dystonia, tremor and other complex movement disorders. He has gained specialist experience with Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) and advanced Movement disorders therapies, at the famous National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery at Queen Square, London. His neurological expertise includes the assessment and management of headaches and migraine, epilepsy, cerebrovascular disease, neuroinflammatory conditions, neuromuscular disorders, motor neuron disease, peripheral nerve disorders and spinal neurological conditions. Dr Farook is experienced in a range of neurological procedures, including botulinum toxin treatment for dystonia and chronic migraine, greater occipital nerve blocks, Intrathecal injections, lumbar puncture and ultrasound-guided lumbar puncture. He ran a specialist dystonia service at University Hospitals Birmingham and has also been actively involved in clinical research and international clinical trials in areas including Parkinsonâs disease, epilepsy and motor neuron disease. Born in the UAE, Dr Farook brings previous clinical and academic experience in the UAE. He has worked at government Emirates Health Service hospitals and has taught medical students at RAK Medical and Health Sciences University. Dr Farook takes a patient-centred approach to neurological care, with an emphasis on listening carefully to each patient, understanding how neurological symptoms affect their daily lives, and developing an individualised treatment plan.
