Biography

Dr. Mohammed Zeki Ahmed is an experienced Vascular and Non-Vascular Interventional Radiologist. Dr. Ahmed graduated in 1996 from Mosul College of Medicine in Mosul, Iraq. He completed two years of surgical training (vascular) at Leeds and Bradford hospitals in the UK and obtained his MRCS in Surgery in 2005. He then undertook his higher specialty training in Radiology at the East Yorkshire Radiology Academy (UK), obtaining a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Radiology in 2010. Dr. Ahmed also completed a one-year advanced Interventional Radiology fellowship at the prestigious Royal Free London NHS Trust hospital, Centre for Hepato-Pancreatic-Biliary (HPB) Surgery and Liver Transplantation. He worked at Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, where he served as a full-time Vascular Interventional Radiologist Consultant at Hull University Hospital for five years. He holds the European Board in Interventional Radiology (EBIR) certification. Dr. Ahmed is one of the first Interventional Radiologists to hold a HAAD (DOH) Interventional Radiology License in the UAE. Throughout his career, Dr. Ahmed has worked at numerous renowned hospitals in the Gulf region, including King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre (KFSH&RC) in KSA, Al Ain Hospital, and Tawam Hospital in the UAE. With 19 years of extensive experience, he has performed a wide range of emergency and elective vascular procedures such as embolization for trauma, gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding, bleeding control, aortic intervention, peripheral vascular intervention, stenting, fistula work, and dialysis access management. Dr. Ahmed is skilled in venous interventions, including IVC filter insertion and the management of acute DVT and SVC obstruction syndrome. He is also experienced in vascular access procedures, such as portacath, PICC lines, and Hickman line placement in both children and adults. He is an expert in oncology interventions, including tumour biopsy, ablation, chemoembolization (TACE), and radioembolization (TARE) for liver cancer. Notably, Dr. Ahmed performed the first TARE procedure in Abu Dhabi. He also has extensive experience in hepatobiliary interventions, including TIPS, transjugular liver biopsy, urological interventional procedures, uterine fibroid embolization, scrotal varicocele embolization, and prostate artery embolization.
