Dr. Firuz Ibrahim, MBBS, MD, DNB, FEBNM, is a highly accomplished specialist in the branch of nuclear medicine and holds the position of Specialist in the Department of Nuclear Medicine at Burjeel Medical City, Abu Dhabi. She has many years of experience in various nuclear medicine procedures with a special interest in nuclear oncology, radio-nuclide therapy, nuclear cardiology, neurology, and endocrine imaging interventions. Over the years of her much-awarded career, Dr. Firuz Ibrahim has successfully handled complicated and sensitive cancer cases with advanced nuclear medicine technology. She has actively participated in educating the non-nuclear medicine fraternity about the scope and prospects of Nuclear Medicine and has contributed to the efficacy of diagnosis and therapy procedures in the specialization. Other areas of her research and application include radio-nuclide therapy, dementia and Parkinson’s disease imaging, utility of FDG PET CT in pyrexia of unknown origin, PET CT in gynecological malignancies, Lymphoma and Multiple myeloma. Dr. Firuz Ibrahim received her training from a 1500-bedded high volume cancer center in South India. She also worked for another 5 years in a busy tertiary care hospital in South India, before joining Burjeel Medical City. She is a Fellow of European Board of Nuclear Medicine and has also received Master’s in Oncologic in Imaging Certificate from University of Pisa, Italy. Her areas of expertise include,
- PET CT – FDG PET CT,18 F Sodium Flouride PET CT, F18 DOPA PET CT, 18 F Choline PET CT, Gallium 68 PSMA PET CT, Gallium 68 DOTANOC PET CT and Gallium 68 Exendin PET CT
- Gamma Camera and SPECT CT – Expertise includes all routinely done procedures including Stress Myocardial perfusion scintigraphy, Technetium MDP bone scan, Tc DTPA Renal scans, Technetium thyroid scans, lymphoscintigraphy, I-131 whole-body scintigraphy, HIDA scan, Sentinel lymphoscintigraphy, I-131 MIBG imaging and gamma probing, ROLL etc.
- Special expertise in Thyroid cancer – Radio-iodine ablation and radioiodine therapy for metastases.
- Other Therapeutic nuclear medicine procedures – Y-90 Thera sphere/Sirsphere therapy for Hepatocellular carcinoma, Rhenium 188 Lipiodol TARE for HCC, Lutetium-177 PSMA therapy for metastatic prostate cancers and Lutetium 177 DOTATATE therapy for metastatic neuroendocrine tumors and have had experience in Strontium 89 bone pain palliation therapy
