Dr. Nicholas E. Johnson is a visiting Consultant at Burjeel Medical City. He is a Professor and Vice Chair for Research in the Department of Neurology at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), where he also serves as the George Bliley Research Chair and Director of the Center for Inherited Muscle Research. He received his undergraduate degree in molecular and cellular biology and psychology and his medical degree from the University of Arizona, followed by a neurology residency and a combined fellowship in neuromuscular medicine and experimental therapeutics at the University of Rochester. Dr. Johnson treats adults and children with a range of neuromuscular and nerve disorders, including muscular and myotonic dystrophies, spinal muscular atrophy, and Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease. He is on the front lines of clinical trials and translational laboratory research for advanced gene-based therapies and works with multidisciplinary teams to provide comprehensive patient care. His work has resulted in major research grants, such as a Muscular Dystrophy Association grant establishing a national research network, and he is board-certified in neurology, neuromuscular medicine, and neuromuscular pathology.
