Dr. Ronald Jan Trof is an intensivist with over 20 years of experience in critical care, emergency medicine, and advanced hemodynamic monitoring. He has worked in leading teaching and tertiary hospitals in the Netherlands, consistently focusing on safe, evidence-based intensive care medicine. Since 2008, he has served at Medisch Spectrum Twente, one of the Netherlands’ major trauma and teaching hospitals. In addition to his clinical role, he has held senior leadership positions, including Director of the ICU and Chair of the Medical Staff. In these roles, he led the merger of specialized intensive care units, enhanced operational efficiency, and advanced multidisciplinary care across specialties such as cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, trauma, and hematology. Dr. Trof earned his PhD at VU University, Amsterdam, where his research focused on fluid therapy and hemodynamic monitoring in critically ill patients work that has informed international ICU practice. He remains actively involved in clinical research, postgraduate education, and post-ICU patient follow-up initiatives.
