Biography

Dr. Zuhair Alsharafi is the Director of Emergency Medicine at Burjeel Medical City in Mohamad Bin Zayed City. He received his Bachelor’s degree in medicine and surgery (MBBS) from the College of Medicine-King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Since 2003, Dr. Alsharafi has pursued his career and passion in the field of emergency medicine in Canada. He completed the Emergency Medicine Residency Program through the Canadian Royal College of Medicine and Surgery at McGill University, Montreal, Canada. Then he completed a 2-year Fellowship in Emergency Medical Services (EMS/Medical Director) at the University of Toronto/Sunnybrook Osler Centre for Prehospital Care, Toronto, Canada. From 2010 to 2021, Dr. Alsharafi worked as an Emergency Consultant at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre-Emergency Department, Toronto, Ontario. During this period, he completed many health administrations courses at the Institute of Health, Policy, Management, and Evaluation, University of Toronto. He was appointed the Medical Director of Operations in the Emergency Department and then promoted to Chief of the Emergency Department. He also carries an academic university appointment at the University of Toronto, Canada. Dr. Alsharafi led numerous initiatives, projects, and publications in the fields of quality improvement, patient flow, and patient experience. He received many awards in appreciation of his accomplishments.
