Biography

Dr. Mayada Thamir Younis has joined Burjeel Hospital as a Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynecology. She graduated from the historic Barts and The London School of Medicine in 2004. She was among the top five of her medical college as she won numerous awards, prizes, and honors in medicine and surgery. She obtained her MRCOG from the prestigious Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, UK, in 2010 and has been an active Member of the RCOG. She completed her consultant training and obtained her Certificate of Completion of Consultant Training (CCT) in 2013 from the General Medical Council (GMC) in the UK. Dr. Mayada worked and trained in London, Yorkshire, and East Anglia. After completing her consultant training, she joined a tertiary referral hospital for endometriosis, advanced laparoscopy, and urogynecology in Sydney, Australia. Dr. Mayada settled in UAE, where she practiced as a Consultant in reputed hospitals in Abu Dhabi for five years prior to joining Burjeel Hospital. Dr. Mayada’s special interest lies in high-risk obstetrics, maternal medicine (managing comorbidities in pregnancy, including diabetes and preconception counseling), and labor ward management. Dr. Mayada is experienced in performing instrumental (vacuum and forceps assisted) deliveries, vaginal birth after up to two cesarean sections, investigation and management of recurrent pregnancy loss, prevention and management of premature labor, management of multiple pregnancies (twins, etc.), as well as the management of obstetric emergencies. She completed the Maternal Medicine Advanced Training Skills Module in 2012. She also completed the Advanced Labour Ward Practice Advanced Training Skills Module, Managing Obstetric Emergencies and Trauma (MOET), all in 2013. She has been an Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO) instructor since 2013. In gynecology, Dr. Mayada’s special interest lies in reproductive endocrinology and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) management. Her Bachelor of Medical Sciences degree was in reproductive endocrinology, where she took part in and published medical research into the causes of PCOS. While working and training at The Ipswich Hospital, the UK, she obtained a Diploma from the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare in 2008. She is also a competent gynecological surgeon. She is completing the benign abdominal surgery: open and laparoscopic advanced training skills module. She is experienced in performing abdominal, vaginal, and laparoscopic as well as hysteroscopic benign gynecological surgeries. This includes surgery to manage endometrial hyperplasia, menorrhagia (heavy periods), uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, fallopian tube pathology, endometriosis, and adenomyosis well as uterovaginal prolapse. Dr. Mayada takes pride in being a doctor that practices evidence-based medicine whenever possible and works to international standards and guidelines. She keeps abreast with medical advances by reading medical journals and attending international conferences. She is an approachable doctor with an easy, down-to-earth manner, who has an eye for detail and always takes the time to listen to patients’ concerns. She believes that the key to optimizing patient care lies in thoroughly educating patients on their conditions, so they can make informed decisions about their management and treatment plans. Dr. Mayada is fluent in English and Arabic.
