Biography

Dr. Gourab Sen is an experienced Consultant General and Hepatobiliary and abdominal Transplant Surgeon (Liver/Kidney/Pancreas) at Burjeel Medical City. He brings with him a vast experience from his training and consultant practice from India and the UK. He passed his MBBS from Calcutta, India, in 1993, followed by an MS in General Surgery in 1998 before moving to the UK for higher surgical training. He holds a research degree (MD) from UK. He completed higher surgical training in the North-East of England with an award of CCT from the Royal College of Surgeons. He trained as a post-CCT Fellow sponsored by the Royal College of Surgeons of England in multi-organ transplantation before becoming a Consultant Hepatobiliary and Transplant Surgeon at a renowned hospital in UK. With over 14 years of experience as a Consultant, he has vast clinical experience of performing complex liver, biliary and pancreatic surgery for cancer, including major robotic surgery. He has conducted close to 400 liver transplants and has extensive expertise in kidney and pancreas transplantation. He held several leadership roles in his career including the lead clinician for liver and pancreatic cancer for the Nort-East of England, and clinical lead for his department in the UK. He has keen interest in teaching and training and has been a faculty and organiser of several courses for training in minimally invasive and robotic surgery. He has an active research interest and has numerous publications under his name. Apart from these, he is also a member of various international professional societies.
