Biography

Dr. Mustafa Abbas is a highly qualified and experienced Consultant Interventional Radiologist who joined Burjeel Specialty Hospital. He brings with him an impressive array of qualifications and certifications, including the European Board of Interventional Radiology (EBIR) obtained in October 2022. He also holds a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Interventional Radiology, received in August 2020. Dr. Abbas is skilled in a wide range of interventional radiology procedures. His expertise encompasses emergency and elective vascular procedures such as embolization for trauma, gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding, and bronchial bleeding. He is proficient in peripheral angioplasty and stenting for peripheral vascular disease, as well as fistula works, including angioplasty, stenting, and declotting. Additionally, he is experienced in deep vein thrombosis (DVT) thrombolysis and declotting, IVC filter insertion and retrieval, and central venous access procedures like Porta Cath, Hickman lines, and PICC lines insertion. His expertise extends to various aortic procedures, including TEVAR (thoracic endovascular aneurysm repair), EVAR (endovascular aneurysm repair), and CERAB (chronic cerebrospinal venous insufficiency angioplasty and stenting). Dr. Abbas as is also skilled in mesenteric and renal artery stenting, pulmonary artery angiogram and thrombolysis, TIPS (transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt) placement, and trans jugular liver biopsy. He has experience in procedures such as uterine fibroid embolization (UFE), varicocele embolization, pelvic venous congestion treatment, varicose vein treatment, PAVM (pulmonary arteriovenous malformation) treatment, and TACE (transarterial chemoembolization). Furthermore, he has some experience with carotid artery stenting. Before joining Burjeel, he worked as Vascular Interventional Radiology Consultant at STH and was an IR fellow Sheffield teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (STH). Apart from vascular work, Dr. Abbas has also has proficiency in non-vascular procedures, including imaging-guided biopsies and drainage. He is skilled in percutaneous transhepatic cholangiography (PTC), gastrostomy, as well as esophageal, duodenal, and colonic stenting. He has expertise in performing nephrostomy, cystostomy, and ureteric stenting procedures. Furthermore, he is experienced in diagnostic OGD (esophagogastroduodenoscopy).
