Dr. Ishthiaque Ahamed has joined Burjeel Medical Centre, Al Shahama, as a Specialist Nephrologist and renal transplant physician. He brings a wealth of expertise to his new role. Dr. Ahamed completed his DM in Nephrology from Christian Medical College, Vellore, India, in 2004. Prior to that, he obtained an MD in Medicine from Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore, in 1999 and an MBBS from the same institution in 1995, establishing a solid educational foundation for his career. He also gained valuable experience through observing ships at prestigious institutions. In 2009, he expanded his knowledge through an observership at the Multi-organ transplant unit at Toronto General Hospital in Toronto. In 2013, he was trained in the Across-Blood group transplant unit at AsanMedical Centre in Seoul, South Korea. Throughout his professional journey, Dr. Ahamed has held various positions that have enriched his knowledge and skills. Since April 2006, he has served as a nephrologist at Narayana Hrudayalaya Hospital in Bangalore, which is a renowned 2000-bedded health city in India. He has served as Senior Consultant and Head of the Department at the same hospital since 2016. He has been involved in the care of over 500 renal recipients, making him highly knowledgeable in the field. He has vast experience managing high-risk kidney transplantation, including kidney transplant across blood groups ( ABO-i), kidney transplantation in HIV patients, kidney transplantation in sensitized recipients, combined kidney & liver transplantation, and combined kidney and pancreas transplantation.
