Biography

Professor Basil Ammori graduated from the University of Baghdad’s School of Medicine in 1986 with an MBChB degree. He completed his surgical training in the United Kingdom (1989–2000), earning his CCST and the degrees of FRCSEd, FRCS (Eng), and MD. He was appointed a Hunterian Professor by the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2000 and worked as a Consultant Laparoscopic Bariatric and Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Surgeon in Manchester, United Kingdom, from 2000 to 2017, where he led the Northwest of England’s Bariatric Surgery service. From 2011 to 2019, he served as an Honorary Professor of Hepatobiliary and Bariatric Surgery at the University of Manchester. His expertise extends to over 6,000 laparoscopic procedures. In addition to his interest in bariatric surgery, Dr. Ammori was the first to introduce the laparoscopic Whipple procedure in the UK. He moved to King Hussein Cancer Center, Amman, Jordan, in 2017, where he promoted laparoscopic resections for stomach, colon, liver, and pancreas cancers. Additionally, he has a particular interest in managing gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and offers a variety of laparoscopic procedures to correct it, including fundoplication and LINX device implantation. Professor Ammori has a keen academic interest and serves on the editorial boards of several peer-reviewed medical journals. He has authored over 190 publications and book chapters.
