Biography

Dr. Abdel Rahman Omer completed his medical education (MBBS) at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Khartoum, Sudan. Subsequently, he earned his Master’s in Surgical Sciences (MSc) from University College London (UK). Dr. Abdel was awarded a Doctorate (PhD) from Hartford University in the USA. He later became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) in the UK. Dr. Abdel began his career in Sudan, where he worked at several well-known hospitals. From 1993 to 1996, he worked at several prestigious UK hospitals, including Great Ormond Street Hospital, University College London Hospitals, and King George’s Hospital. In 1996, Dr. Abdel served as a Research Fellow at University College London Hospitals (UK) for two years. From 1998 to 2004, he continued his practice in the UK at Peterborough Hospital, Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, Ipswich Hospital, and the West Suffolk Teaching Hospital. He was also associated with the Cleveland Clinic in Florida, USA, as a Fellow in Colorectal Surgery, and with Addenbrooke’s Hospital (Cambridge University Hospitals – NHS Trust) in the UK. Most recently, he was affiliated with Ipswich Hospital NHS Trust (UK), where he served as the Lead Consultant in Colorectal, General, and Laparoscopic Surgery. Dr. Abdel also has a strong passion for teaching and has been actively involved in surgical and undergraduate student training. He was an Associate Professor of Surgery at St. George’s International Medical School in the UK. Other notable institutions in the UK where Dr. Abdel has held teaching positions include UCL Medical School, Cambridge University Medical School, the University of Leicester, and the University of East Anglia. Additionally, he has served as a Visiting Professor of Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Khartoum (Sudan), and Tashanaka Hospital in Japan. Dr. Abdel is an avid researcher and has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications. He has been the Lead Consultant in Surgical Research and participated in several clinical trials at Ipswich Hospital NHS Trust (UK). He also serves on the editorial boards of the International Journal of Surgery and the Sudanese Journal of Surgery. Dr. Abdel has over 25 years of experience spanning the USA, the UK, and Africa. His key areas of expertise include colorectal surgery, general surgery, and laparoscopic surgery. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Medical Directors Association, the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management, the Royal College of Surgeons of England, and the International Association of University Colorectal Surgeons (USA).
