Every October, the world turns PINK – a symbol of unity, strength, and awareness in the fight against breast cancer – one of the most common cancers in women. The good news is: when detected early, it is highly treatable.

Pink Month is a reminder for women to take charge of their health with timely check-ups and screenings, while honoring the courage of those whose lives have been touched.

October is All About Preventive Care

Breast cancer often shows no signs in the early stages. That’s why regular check-ups, especially mammograms, are lifesaving.

  • Detect cancer before symptoms appear
  • Offer more treatment options
  • Improve survival rates significantly

Early Screening Saves Lives

The Symbol of Protection

A gesture that represents:

  • Care
  • Strength
  • Togetherness

It symbolizes the protection a mammogram provides—shielding women’s health and reminding them they are never alone.

Preventive Care for Women

1. Self-Examination

Know your normal. A monthly self-check helps you notice changes in size, shape, skin, or any new lumps. If you spot something unusual, see your doctor immediately.
Note: Self-exams are helpful but do not replace regular mammograms and clinical exams.

2. Mammography Test

A mammogram is a quick, low-dose X-ray that can spot breast cancer long before symptoms appear. It remains one of the most reliable tools for early detection.

Women over 40 (or younger if at risk) should speak to their doctor about scheduling a mammogram.

Genetic Testing (BRCA Test)

Some women are more at risk due to inherited factors. BRCA testing helps identify if you carry a gene mutation linked to breast and ovarian cancer—so you can act early.

You may be a candidate if you have:

  • A personal history of breast, ovarian, pancreatic, or high-risk prostate cancer
  • Family history of breast, ovarian, colorectal, or pancreatic cancer
  • Multiple relatives on the same side with cancer
  • A male relative with breast cancer
  • A family member with both breast and ovarian cancer
  • A known BRCA mutation in the family

Early knowledge means proactive care and personalized prevention plans.
