Dr. Somar is a Syrian board-certified specialist in ophthalmology and surgery. He completed his MBBS from Damascus Medical College in 2007 and graduated in ophthalmology in 2011 from Ibn Al-Nafees Eye Surgical Hospital, the largest specialized training center in Syria. From 2011 to 2013, he pursued a two-year fellowship in oculoplastic surgery. From 2014 to 2020, he worked as a supervising specialist at an eye surgical hospital. In 2018, he successfully performed the first artificial corneal transplant (keratoprosthesis) in Syria. He joined Al Rawda Hospital, one of the most prominent hospitals in Damascus, from 2016 to 2024, where he received extensive training in the medical and surgical care of the retina and vitreous, as well as in keratoplasty (PKP, DALK, KPro). Dr. Somar has also participated as a speaker at numerous conferences.
