Biography

Dr. Raad Usama Al Mehdi has more than 30 years of experience in surgery. He is a Senior Consultant and Head of Bariatric Surgery at Burjeel Medical City and Burjeel Medical Center, Al Shamkha. Before joining BMC, Dr. Al Mehdi served in several positions in different countries, including Iraq, South East Asia ( Malaysia and Singapore), Australia, and Oman. In Malaysia, he practiced as a Specialist Surgeon in general and cardiothoracic surgery during his decade stay in Australia, he went through official full training fellowships in the fields of regional surgery than in advanced GI laparoscopy and bariatrics. After this, he held the position of Director of Surgery and Associate Professor at Mackay – North Queensland. In Oman, he was Head of Surgery, then Head of the Upper GI and Bariatric unit for ten years at the Royal Hospital in Muscat. He also held the role of Assistant Program Director of the Omani Surgical Board (OMSB) for the same period. His last position was as a visiting Senior Consultant Surgeon at the Oman International Hospital in Muscat.
