Biography

Dr. Seongeun Byun is a board-certified Orthopaedic Surgeon with 21 years of experience as a physician, specializing in lower extremity trauma, fracture fixation, and hip and knee reconstruction. He received his medical degree (M.D.) from Seoul National University in 2004, followed by internship and orthopaedic residency training at Seoul National University Hospital and Asan Medical Center, Korea. He subsequently obtained a Master’s (2012) and Ph.D. (2017) in Orthopaedic Surgery from Ulsan University. He went on to complete two years of subspecialty fellowship training in hip and knee surgery at Asan Medical Center, where he specialized in advanced hip fracture management, primary and revision arthroplasty, and complex knee reconstruction. As part of his international training, Dr. Byun undertook an AO Trauma Fellowship at BG UnfallKlinik, Tuebingen, Germany, and later served as a visiting scholar at Denver Health Medical Center, University of Colorado, USA (2018–2019), gaining further expertise in pelvic and acetabular trauma and complex lower extremity fracture management. Dr. Byun has performed and supervised thousands of surgical procedures in trauma and arthroplasty, with particular focus on geriatric hip fractures, femoral and tibial shaft fractures, and joint reconstruction. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and contributed to international textbooks, with his research recognized by awards such as the Best Paper Award at the 51st Annual Meeting of the Korean Orthopaedic Trauma Association (2025). He has also been actively involved in national and international orthopaedic societies, serving as AO Trauma Korea National Faculty and holding leadership positions in the Korean Orthopaedic Trauma Association and related professional organizations. Dr. Byun has been invited as a speaker at international congresses, sharing his expertise in orthopaedic surgery.
