Biography
Prof. Dr. Mohamed Diaa Sarhan is an internationally recognized professor and consultant in general, bariatric and metabolic surgery, with more than two decades of academic and surgical experience. He graduated from Cairo University in 2004, completed his MSc in General Surgery in 2009 and earned his MD in General Surgery in 2011. He is a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and holds full registration with a licence to practise from the UK General Medical Council, in addition to his professional registrations in Egypt. He is Professor of General and Bariatric Surgery at Cairo University, where he has progressed through the full academic pathway and plays an active role in clinical care, postgraduate education, research and the training of bariatric residents and fellows. Since 2018, he has held the Surgical Review Corporation (USA) designation of Master Surgeon in Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery. Prof. Sarhan has performed more than 20,000 bariatric procedures, with an annual operative volume of approximately 1,500-2,000 cases. His practice encompasses primary and revisional bariatric surgery, including laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, one-anastomosis gastric bypass, SADI and SASI procedures, adjustable gastric banding and advanced robotic surgery. By early 2026, he had performed 250 robotic general and bariatric procedures, together with holding international robotic proctorship credentials and completing advanced training at IRCAD, France. He is the founder and CEO of Sarhan Obesity Clinic and ABC – Arab Bariatric and Plastic Center, an SRC-accredited standalone Bariatric and Metabolic Center of Excellence in Egypt. Beyond clinical practice, he has trained residents, fellows and visiting international surgical teams through masterclasses, advanced courses and clinical immersion programs. His scientific work includes peer reviewed publications and presentations at major international meetings, including IFSO, ASMBS, SAGES and the American College of Surgeons.
