Biography

Dr. Oussama Chaar is a Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon & HOD at Burjeel Hospital, Abu Dhabi’s Orthopaedic Institute. He obtained his MD degree from Liege University, Belgium, in 1984 & went on to pursue a Fellowship in Orthopedic at Liege University Hospital with a subspecialty in joint replacement. He completed his fellowship in 1990 with a degree of “High Excellency.” He also has a diploma in Biomechanics from the University of Brussels and has been awarded the best scientific research by the “Lejeune et Lechien” foundation of Liege University. Dr. Oussama worked in Belgium for 24 years successfully as a Senior consultant before moving to UAE in the year 2014. He became one of the pioneers in his field and developed his joint replacement department with more than 500 knee and hip replacement surgeries a year. Dr. Oussama practiced at a key government hospital in Abu Dhabi before moving to Burjeel Hospital as a Consultant and Head of the Orthopedic Department. Dr. Oussama has more than 30 years of experience in his field, successfully achieving more than ten thousand knee and hip joint replacement surgeries. He is an author of many publications, a co-inventor of knee prostheses, and has done various research studies in different European institutes. He is an expert in complex primary joint replacement, hip and knee revision, complex pelvic fracture, and Bone tumor surgery. He has operated on many international patients from the Middle East, South Africa, and Australia. He has long experience in total hip replacement for congenital hip dislocation and has developed his technic without femoral shortening osteotomy. He uses the most updated minimally invasive procedure and is familiar with navigation and robotic surgery for joint replacement. He has applied his fast track technique in the knee and hip replacement since 2017 with minimal postop pain and quick recovery without needing physiotherapy. He is continually active in the medical community and participates as a speaker and attendee in major scientific events in Europe and North America. His areas of expertise include,
