Dr. Belal Shehab Specialist of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery and Dental Implantology

Biography

Dr. Belal is a board certified oral maxillofacial surgeon, graduated in 2009 from the Faculty of Dentistry in Egypt. His passion for surgery led him to dedicate the entire training period (internship year) of 2009/2010 inside the OR at the Faculty of Dentistry, Cairo University. During this time, he gained exposure to various types of maxillofacial surgeries alongside professors and faculty staff. In 2014, Dr. Belal commenced his residency in the Cranio-Maxillofacial and Plastic Surgery Department at the Faculty of Dentistry, Alexandria University. He completed his training in 2018, earning the Arab Board certificate and the prestigious MOMS RCSed, UK in oral and maxillofacial surgery. Just Before starting his residency, Dr. Belal underwent an externship (observership) in the Oral Maxillofacial Department at Tufts University, Boston, USA, significantly influencing his career planning In addition to his clinical training and obtaining certificates of MOMS RCSed UK and the ARAB BOARD, Dr. Belal pursued a master’s degree for foundational knowledge in clinical research. He successfully defended his thesis and passed the final exams, receiving his master’s degree. In 2022, he received a scholarship from Harvard Medical School for clinical research training (CSRT HMS USA), enhancing his academic and research expertise. In April 2023, Belal published his first peer-reviewed paper at Al-Azhar Journal of Dental Sciences.  Promoted and registered as a consultant of oral maxillofacial surgery in Egypt, Dr. Belal practices the full scope of the specialty. He remains updated on the latest clinical guidelines through participation in national and international conferences, workshops, and study clubs. In any surgical setting, reliability and maturity are paramount. Dr. Belal with his 15 years of experience consistently demonstrates sound priorities, punctuality, and good judgment in both his personal and professional life. Passionate about teaching and training, he employs active teaching methodologies acquired through participation in the TOT program in medical education. This enables him to effectively supervise, educate, and guide his interns and junior staff in his work place and other healthcare facilities. Recently, Dr. Belal relocated to the UAE, where he serves as a senior specialist in oral maxillofacial surgery and a privileged implantologist recognized by the Department of Health (DOH). His expertise includes, 

• Diagnose and manage diseases, disorders, or injuries of the orofacial complex.
• Diagnose and treat facial pain.
• Diagnose and manage TMJ disorders and salivary gland diseases.
• Diagnose and manage dento-facial deformities, either acquired, developmental or congenital. (orthognathic surgeries)
• Prescribe and interpret oral and maxillofacial related x-ray images.
• Perform simple and complex/ complicated dento-alveolar procedures
• Harvest hard or soft tissue for the purpose of grafting surgery on the orofacial complex.
• Reduce and fix fractures of bones or dislocation of a joint of the orofacial complex via open or close approach.
• Manage and prescribe medication for complex orofacial infections.
• Prescribe medication appropriate to their scope, and according to the uae federal laws and local regulations.
• Evaluate and plan a course of treatment, and perform pre-prosthetic and prosthetic surgery (perform implant and peri-implant surgery procedures)
• Diagnose, plan and surgically treat benign tumors and subsequent reconstruction.
• Participate as a member of mdt in management of head& neck cancer / craniofacial & cleft cases.
