Biography

Dr. Sathiyan is a vitreoretinal and cataract surgeon with nearly 20 years of experience. He is a former Consultant Ophthalmologist at United Lincolnshire Hospital Trust, UK. He is a pioneer in treating diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration associated with aging. He has extensive experience with Anti Veg F intravitreal injections in treating various retinal conditions and manages all complex surgical retinal conditions, including advanced traction retinal detachments (RDs). He pioneered and mastered suture-free buckling and vitrectomy procedures, including microincision vitrectomy procedures (MIVS). He has extensive experience with macular holes and related surgeries. He has mastered the art of performing cataract and vitrectomy surgeries in conjunction with other procedures for various conditions. He has performed over 25,000 advanced microincision cataract surgeries using refractive IOLs such as Toric, Multifocal Toric, Glued IOL, SFIOL, and Cionni rings. He possesses extensive experience with multimodality retinal imaging, laser photocoagulation, photodynamic therapy, and the management of retinopathy of prematurity. Dr. Sathiyan has worked as a Consultant Retina and Cataract Surgeon for several prestigious hospitals in India and the United Arab Emirates. He worked as a Consultant Vitreoretinal Surgeon and Chief Medical Officer for one of India’s largest chains of eye hospitals. He pioneered the establishment of Vitreoretinal specialties in various parts of south India. In 2012, he relocated to Abu Dhabi, UAE, where he worked as a retina and cataract surgeon at the NMC Eye Care Center of Excellence for Ophthalmology. He is a Member of the All-India Ophthalmological Society, the Indian Vitreo Retina Society, the European Retina Society, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in Glasgow, the Independent Ethics Committee in Mumbai, India, and the Advisory Board Committee for Allergan Surgical. He is one of the Top 100 authors for his research and publication on Pseudophakic Rhegmatogenous Retinal Detachment (Bibliometric analysis: Journal of the American Society of Retina Specialists, 2021). His publication in Acta Scandinavia (2005) is the most cited publication for the last 120 years of his work on primary vitrectomy for pseudophakic retinal detachment. His areas of expertise include:
