Biography

Dr. Shamnad Madathil is a highly accomplished Consultant Neonatologist with over a decade of clinical training and practice at some of India’s most prestigious medical institutions, including the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, and the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh.

Dr Shamnad completed MD Pediatrics degree from Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, one of the prestigious & leading institute for pediatric training in India. As part of his further training, he went on to pursue his DM in Neonatology from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, country’s most competitive and academically rigorous postgraduate programmes and has since built a distinguished career focused on critical neonatal care, research, and medical education.

He has also accomplished an observership in Medstar Georgetown University Hospital (MGUH), Washington DC, one of the premier level IV NICU for neonatal and perinatal care in United States of America (USA).

Prior to joining Burjeel Hospital, Abu Dhabi, Dr. Shamnad served as Consultant Neonatologist at Baby Memorial Hospital (BMH), Kerala, a leading tertiary care centre in South India. His clinical expertise spans neonatal intensive care, high-frequency ventilation, functional echocardiography (POCUS), neonatal neuroimaging, and the management of extremely premature and high-risk newborns.

Dr. Shamnad is an active researcher and author, with publications in leading peer-reviewed journals including the BMJ Open, Indian Pediatrics, and the Journal of Pediatrics. He is a recipient of the Dr. SS Manchanda Gold Medal for the best research paper in Neonatology (PEDICON 2019) and has contributed chapters to internationally recognised textbooks including the AIIMS Neonatology Protocol Book and the Practical Procedures for the Newborn Nursery (4th and 5th editions).He is deeply committed to teaching and capacity building, having served as faculty at national neonatology conferences, simulation workshops, and quality improvement programmes.
