Biography

Dr. Nesreen Mohamed Ismail Moustafa comes with over 24 years of rich practice experience in the field of Rheumatology. She started her career as a house officer in Suez Canal University Hospital in 1996 soon after she obtained her Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery degree from the above university. She then went on to pursue her master’s degree in Rheumatology at the same University Hospital, which she completed in 2002, and continued working there as an assistant lecturer until 2004. Dr. Nesreen decided to move to Saudi Arabia in 2004 as she was offered an opportunity to be associated with Al Ahsa Medical Center as a Rheumatologist Specialist for two years. She then returned to Suez Canal University as a lecturer and while being devoted to her work, Dr. Nesreen also earned her Doctorate Degree in Rheumatology from the Faculty of Medicine in 2008 and continued working there until the end of 2009. In 2010, Dr. Nesreen relocated to UAE and worked with some of the renowned hospital groups in Abu Dhabi for 13 years before joining Burjeel Day Surgery Center in Al Reem Island. During the course of her practice in Abu Dhabi, she developed an enormous interest in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound, because of which, she earned her Expert of Musculoskeletal Ultrasound (MSUS) Diploma from Universidad Catolica San Antonio de Murcia in 2014, certification of expertise in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound from the European Alliance of Associations of Rheumatology (EULAR) Leeds, United Kingdom in 2016, and certification as a EULAR certified trainer of Musculoskeletal Ultrasound in Madrid, Spain in 2017. Due to her expertise, she has been involved in MSUS teaching for undergraduate and postgraduate students at various national and international conferences. Her areas of expertise include the use of Ultrasound for Early Diagnosis and follow-up of the response to the management of Inflammatory Arthritis, the use of Ultrasound for Joints and Soft Tissue Injections and Aspirations, and diagnosis and management of Autoimmune and Connective Tissue Diseases including but not limited to Systemic Lupus Erythematous (SLE) Sjoren’s Syndrome, Scleroderma, Behcet’s Syndrome and Vasculitis. Dr. Nesreen is also an expert in the diagnosis and management of Inflammatory Arthritis such as Rheumatoid Arthritis, Psoriatic Arthritis, Crystal – induced Arthropathy and Gout, diagnosis and management of Chronic Neck, Back Pain Inflammatory, Spondyloarthropathies, and Ankylosing Spondylitis and diagnosis and management of Osteoporosis and Osteoarthritis. With her vast clinical experience, she co-authored various publications such as Precursor miR-196a2 is Associated with Rheumatoid Arthritis Susceptibility in an Egyptian Population, Molecular Diagnosis, and Therapy and authored Genotype triad for HOTAIR rs10783618, LINC-ROR rs1942347, and MALAT1 rs3200401 as Molecular Markers in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, and Association of microRNA-34a rs2666433 (A/G) Variant with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus in Female Patients: A Case-Control Study. Dr. Nesreen is also an active member of the Emirate Society of Rheumatology, the Emirates Osteoporosis Society, and the American Association of Neuromuscular Electrodiagnostic Medicine (AANEM).
