Influenza Vaccine (Influvac Tetra)
Influenza, or the flu, is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. It can cause mild to severe illness, and in some cases, it can lead to hospitalization or death, particularly in vulnerable populations such as the elderly or those with chronic health conditions.
Dosage Recommendations:
- 18-26 years: 1 dose annually, 1 month prior to flu season
- 27-49 years: 1 dose annually, 1 month prior to flu season
- 50-64 years: 1 dose annually, 1 month prior to flu season
- 65+ years: 1 dose annually, 1 month prior to flu season
Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis (Tdap)
Tdap provides protection against tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (whooping cough). Tetanus is a serious bacterial infection affecting the nervous system, diphtheria causes severe throat and airway swelling, and pertussis is a highly contagious respiratory disease.
Dosage Recommendations:
Every 10 years and for wound management after seeing a physician
Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR)
This combination vaccine protects against three viral infections: measles, mumps, and rubella. Measles is a highly contagious virus that can lead to complications such as pneumonia, while mumps can cause swelling of the salivary glands. Rubella, also known as German measles, can be particularly dangerous for pregnant women.
Dosage Recommendations:
- 18-26 years: 1 or 2 doses, depending on immunity status
- 27-49 years: 1 or 2 doses, depending on immunity status
- 50-64 years: Not typically required
- 65+ years: Not typically required
Varicella (Chickenpox) Vaccine (Varivax)
Chickenpox is a highly contagious disease caused by the varicella-zoster virus, leading to an itchy, blister-like rash. The vaccine prevents severe illness and complications such as pneumonia or encephalitis.
Dosage Recommendations:
- 18-26 years: 2 doses if born after 1980
- 27-49 years: 2 doses if born after 1980
- 50-64 years: 2 doses
- 65+ years: 2 doses
Zoster Recombinant (Shingrix) – For Shingles
Shingles is a painful rash caused by the reactivation of the varicella-zoster virus (the same virus that causes chickenpox). It is most common in older adults and can lead to severe nerve pain lasting long after the rash clears up.
Dosage Recommendations:
- 50-64 years: 2 doses
- 65+ years: 2 doses (for immunocompromised individuals)
Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccine (Gardasil 9 PFS)
Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a common virus transmitted through intimate skin-to-skin contact. It can cause genital warts and is a leading cause of cervical cancer and other cancers. The vaccine prevents infections with the virus types most commonly associated with cancer and warts.
Dosage Recommendations:
- 18-26 years: 3 doses
- 27-45 years: 3 doses
- 50-64 years: Not recommended
- 65+ years: Not recommended
Pneumococcal Vaccine (Prevenar 20)
Pneumococcal disease can cause serious infections such as pneumonia, meningitis, and sepsis. It is especially dangerous for young children, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems.
Dosage Recommendations:
- Single dose recommended
Hepatitis A (Havrix 1440 Adult)
Hepatitis A is a viral liver disease that can cause mild to severe illness. It is primarily spread through contaminated food or water. Vaccination is highly effective in preventing this disease.
Dosage Recommendations:
- 18-26 years: Initial dose followed by a booster after 6-12 months
- 27-49 years: Initial dose followed by a booster after 6-12 months
- 50-64 years: Initial dose followed by a booster after 6-12 months
- 65+ years: Initial dose followed by a booster after 6-12 months
Hepatitis B (Hep B Adult)
Hepatitis B is a viral infection that attacks the liver and can cause both acute and chronic disease. It spreads through contact with infected body fluids and can lead to liver cirrhosis or cancer.
Dosage Recommendations:
- 18-26 years: 3 or 4 doses depending on immunity
- 27-49 years: 3 or 4 doses depending on immunity
- 50-64 years: 3 or 4 doses depending on immunity
- 65+ years: 3 or 4 doses depending on immunity
Meningococcal B (Bexsero)
Meningococcal B is a strain of bacteria that causes invasive meningococcal disease, leading to severe complications such as brain damage, hearing loss, or limb amputation.
Dosage Recommendations:
- 18-26 years: 2 or 3 doses depending on vaccine type and indication
- 27-49 years: 2 or 3 doses depending on vaccine type and indication
Typhoid (Typhim Vi)
Typhoid fever is a bacterial infection spread through contaminated food and water. It is a serious illness that can lead to high fever, diarrhea, and vomiting, and is particularly a risk for travelers to certain regions.
Dosage Recommendations:
- All age groups: Single dose, with revaccination every 2 years for travelers
