Anomaly scan refers to a detailed scan for your baby and your womb (uterus) between 18 to 24 weeks of pregnancy.

When Can I Have the Anomaly Scan?

The anomaly scan is performed between 18-24 weeks of gestation.

How Is the Anomaly Scan Performed?

The anomaly scan is performed trans-abdominally which means over the tummy.

What Does the Anomaly Scan Check For?

Through an anomaly scan, we examine each part of the fetal body, determine the position of the placenta, assess the amount of amniotic fluid, and measure fetal growth. Special attention is paid to the brain, face, spine, heart, stomach, bowel, kidneys, and limbs. The main purpose of the anomaly scan is to assess the pregnancy thoroughly and determine the presence of any rare conditions including those of the brain, spine, and heart. You can also request to know the gender of the baby at this scan.

If any abnormalities are detected, the significance of the findings will be discussed, and the patients will be allowed further counselling with a consultant.
