Professor Kypros Nicolaides is the founder and chairman of the of Fetal Medicine Foundation (FMF), which he set up in 1995.
He has provided training in Fetal Medicine to over 1000 doctors from over 50 countries. Professor Nicolaides has authored over 1500 peer-reviewed journal articles and more than 30 books.
He has an H-index of 183, the highest of any Obstetrician & Gynecologists’ in the world, and has had his research cited over 135,000 times.
The Kypros Nicolaides Fetal Medicine and Therapy Center at Burjeel Medical City, Abu Dhabi, provides comprehensive care for babies in the womb (fetuses) and mothers. Established as the first integrated world-class facility of its kind in the region, the center was inaugurated in 2022 during a special ceremony at Burjeel Medical City. This medical facility, located in Mohammed Bin Zayed City, Abu Dhabi, is the largest under Burjeel Holdings and is owned by Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil, Chairman and Managing Director of Burjeel Holdings.
The center is part of a collaboration between Prof. Kypros Nicolaides and the hospital’s Fetal Medicine Department. It features a dedicated high-risk pregnancy and multiple pregnancy clinic to manage maternal and fetal complications that may arise. The clinic specializes in monitoring the health concerns of both the mother and fetus throughout pregnancy and immediately afterward. Designed to meet the increasing demand for fetal medicine and therapy in the region, the department takes a decisive step toward providing comprehensive fetal care to patients undergoing high-risk pregnancies in the UAE.
This unique collaboration aims to provide high-quality care in fetal medicine and surgery across the UAE and the MENA region, addressing gaps in available services. The clinic also actively researches gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, and preterm delivery to improve pregnancy outcomes, saving more babies and mothers, and safeguarding the future.
