Biography

Dr. Deepak Pillai is a visiting Consultant Nephrologist at Burjeel Day Surgery Center at Al Reem Island in Abu Dhabi and has over 15 years of experience in nephrology. He earned his MBBS from the University of Kerala in 1993, followed by an MD (Internal Medicine) from the University of Kerala in 2000 and a DM (Nephrology) from the University of Calicut in Kerala in 2005. In 2011, he received a Fellowship in Adult Nephrology (FICN) award from the University of Toronto, Canada. Dr. Pillai worked as a Consultant in Nephrology and Transplantation at Moulana Hospital in Perinthalmanna, India. He relocated to Kuwait, where he worked as a Senior Registrar, Renal Transplantation at the Hamed Al Essa kidney transplant center until 2011. After a brief stint in Kuwait, he worked as a Consultant Nephrologist at Cosmopolitan in Kerala, India, until 2014. He taught for over a year as a Senior Lecturer in Medicine at the Medical College in Thiruvananthapuram, India. He then relocated to the UAE, where he worked as a Consultant Nephrologist at the NMC Group of Hospitals in Abu Dhabi and Khalifa City before joining Burjeel Holdings. Dr. Pillai’s medical practice philosophy is based on the belief that there is no higher profession than that of a physician and that serving the patient is synonymous with serving the ultimate. His practice philosophy is to use evidence-based medicine in all parts of renal care, such as kidney transplantation, renal replacement therapy, clinical nephrology, and critical care nephrology.
